 Sperm can live inside the female reproductive tract for up to five days, depending on the conditions in which they are placed. After ejaculation, the sperm travel through the cervix and into the uterus and fallopian tubes, where they can fertilize an egg if one is present. If conditions are not ideal, such as if there is an acidic environment or if the sperm are exposed to air, they may not survive as long. However, if the conditions are favorable, such as during ovulation when the cervical mucus is thin and slippery, the sperm can survive for several days and increase the chances of fertilization.
